Difference between AP English and college seminars?

college seminars from private or liberal arts colleges (Amherst or Yale, suppose).

I know the quantity of books.

What about the level of comments? That is, is there a small discussion of plot and then a deep discussion about symbolism of a book in college seminars? In AP English this is usually the procedure.

Also when you’re writing essays I’ve heard that college profs like for you to “stretch” the interpretation a little, or treat the book like a work of art instead of something written by an author alone (which limits possibilities of interpretation).

If you can take an AP class in high school and have the credit transfer to a college, you are better off. This way, you have the opportunity to register before other students, are a head of the game by 3 credits and don’t have to take an English 100 (or comparable), and it’s cheaper taking an AP class than college-level class.

I don’t know who told you to stretch the interpretation but that’s not true. College is more challenging than high school (even AP courses) because you’re dealing with literature at an accelerated pace and supposedly delving deeper into the texts. However, as with high school, professors are all different and have varied expectations.
