The pearl buyers are con-artist, looking to cheat anyone out of their money, preying on the natives who don’t have as much schooling as the colonisers. They don’t have names because they’re con-artists, and con-artists don’t give you their real name. Also, the pearl buyers are very two-dimensional. They have no purpose in the story other than to try and cheat Kino. Like in most of Steinbeck’s books, only characters important to him deserve names. He keeps the pearl buyers flat and readers don’t really think about them except for what they represent.

Steinbeck wants each reader to put them selves in the story. He says the pearl symbolizes evil.
