Helps: because people may watch similar TV shows in new country, like all kids watch the Simpsons; commercials encourage kids to shop at same stores so wear same clothes; kids model after actors= wear clothes, eat those foods, etc.

Hurts: because there are foreign language stations, so people can isolate themselves to “other language” all evening at home after school, not get enculturated at all except as forced to in school; adults not at all.
