Dental or Med students using the army, navy or airforce scholarships, please tell me what the deal entails?

I want to know if there are any loopholes or fine print that they dont advertise upfront. Is it possible to have a child and be in the program? Do they pull you out of school. Is the scholarship worth them basically owning you for the 4 years post graduation?

I know a few people who did med school like this. One was married, a male, with a child. he did not do any service abroad while in med school, residency and fellowship. he did have to go away for weekends and maybe longer at some points to continue his training. once he finished fellowship, he was sent to Japan for several years and they did not care that he had a life and family in the US. The wife and child stayed behind though I think that this was by choice. I hope someone who actually went through it can give you some better answers. Here is a different option for you. Your avatar suggests that you are a minority. If you are also very bright and get good grades, you will find yourself getting into more than one medical school as you will be getting preferential admissions over whites-you should most definitely use this to your advantage and the child also will help. they LOVE people who overcome adversity. Even if your family is well-off, it wont matter, the med schools love to show how diverse they are and how many minorities they have. I was a teenage welfare mother high school dropout went back for ged, college, med school. they eat that stuff up-I got into several top schools. I also had an excellent gpa so you do have to perform. If you set your sites on a good public med school, like the University of California system, you will be able to get a great education at lower cost. Once finished, you will be making plenty of money to manage your student loans.

i’m not 100% certain, but if i remember properly, you do have to sign up to qualify, and if you are a single parent, you must sign custody over to another person, but after you finish, you qualify for more benefits and more money. there is no way to get the armed forces to give you money without enlisting for at least reserves. your best option if you want to go to school but do not have the funds and are a parent is to take advantage of the pell grant and use student loans as well as research. there are all kinds of scholarships for every type of person trying to go in any kind of program. good luck. remember, even if it is hard to go to school and be a parent, it is so worth it… i am about to graduate, i have a 7 year old and am due any day now with number 2.
