Culinary school?

So I am currently enrolled in a four year program to get my business degree.

I am just finishing up an internship in the business world and the thing is… I don’t want to do what my managers do for the rest of my life.

I don’t want to project manage… I don’t want to sit in front of a computer all day and I don’t want to work for the company I do now ever again

So am I wasting my time finishing up my four year business degree?

I have two full years left but so far no student loans…

See I love to cook.. but I am afraid that if I do something like working in a restaurant I would lose my love for cooking..

So what would be your opinions about this matter?

The Culinary Institute of America, especially a branch located in Pasadena, California offers a 2-year fully degreed program for $58,000 as well as an affiliate 6-months hands-on cooking class for $20,000 [via the Red Kitchen in South Pasadena and Hollywood, CA].

A more reasonably priced culinary course is a 2-year offering at Los Angeles Trade Tech College (“LATTC”) for $975 total.

The average annual starting salary for a chef in downtown Los Angeles is around $30,000 to $35,000 or $14.00 per hour.

Good luck!

Depending on what kind of business degree you are working for, you can venture into places other than the office. Business is broad, so you might have overlooked a niche that might fit you. Try talking with a Career Counselor and see what they know.

Have you considered managing your own restaurant? It would combine a love for cooking and the time you have spent obtaining a business degree.

If transferring is a possiblity, University of Houston’s Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management came to mind. I don’t know the program specifics, so I would recommend that you inquiry about it: http://www.hrm.uh.edu/default.asp
