“Crunk” in the dictionary?!?
If you haven’t already heard, the word “crunk” is going to be added to the next edition of the webster dictionary. In all honesty, I think it’s ridiculous because it’s only a slang term with no real meaning. Are the dictionary writers trying to make the country dummer or something? Okay, maybe that’s a bit extreme, but why would they add words like “crunk” and “bootylicious”?

Language is always changing and evolving. Words come and go all the time. For example, in a valley in Bohemia in 1519, there was a village named St. Joachim. The word for “valley” back then was “tal”. That valley near St. Joachim was called “Joachimstal”. People there made a coin. That coin was called a “Joachimstaler”. Through the years, that coin name evolved and was shortened. That coin, instead of being a Joachimstaler, became known as a “thaler”. It continued to change to “taler” then “daler” then “dollar”. That is where our modern word “dollar” comes from. All of our words morphed from earlier forms. And, words come and go because the world changes. As the world and our cultures change and evolve, new concepts, new discoveries, new technologies and new slang and abbreviations and such arrive in our language. Language does not shape reality. Reality shapes language.

Crunk is a type of hip hop music, classified as a subdivision of Memphis rap and Dirty South.[citation needed] Traditionally, crunk meant a hoarse, harsh cry.[1] The term is often used as slang to mean intoxicated. Folk etymology suggests the modern usage of crunk originated as a portmanteau of the words “crazy” and “drunk” or having been “cranked up” to a level of excitability at which one becomes “crunk”. Rapper Lil Jon defined crunk as a “state of heightened excitement”.
