This involves separating the different colors from a dye or liquid color with a solvent.
The easiest thing to do is to take different brands of washable markers. Say…Crayola, Sharpee…etc.
Put a horizontal line on a strip of paper and BARELY put the bottom of the strip into water.
After some hours, the water will have soaked up to the top of the strip of paper and taken the dye from the markers with it.
The black markers will have separated into all of the different colors which make up black.
Try it with all the different colors. See how red, yellow and blue (primary colors) differ from orange, green, and purple (secondary colors).
How do different brands differ from each other? What happens if you use a non-water soluable marker?
