College students– do a lot of people ride scooters around campus?

I’m going to be a freshman at the University of Florida, which is a huge campus. I’m thinking about getting a scooter, but I don’t want to look like a freak! I wonder if a lot of other kids ride them. I saw a lot when I visited the campus, but I’m not sure if they’re students’ or faculty’s.

I go to UF and it is not really necessary to have a scooter while on campus. I take the bus to campus which is free to all UF students and they pick up pretty regularly. But they stop running at 5 PM.

While on campus, I use a bike to get from class to class if my classes are far apart but most of my classes are pretty close together. I try to schedule my classes so they are not that far away from each other but there are always one or two classes where I would have to walk across campus but even then it only takes 10 to 15 minutes at the most.

Most of the scooters you see on campus are students that don’t want to wait on the shuttles or buses. But you will have to pay for a parking pass for the scooter which is somewhere around $56 a semester. It’s a little more convenient driving a scooter to campus than waiting on the bus. You can wake up later to get to campus and leave campus whenever you want.

A word of warning though. Gainesville is the scooter theft and bike theft capital of Florida. Buy a good lock and always lock it and park it in a safe area where it is out in the open.

Also do not speed on campus on bike or on scooter. The police will ticket you. Yes, you heard me right. The police will ticket you if you speed on a bicycle. I have seen it several times with my own two eyes. The speed limit on campus is 20 mph or 25 mph depending on the area and in some places UF has some good down hill sections that will make you go faster than the posted speed limit.

I rarely ever see people riding scooters around our campus. I suggest you get a bike instead of a scooter.

Columbia is in long island city. it extremely is not a typical campus, all secluded from the exterior international. it is extremely component to the city, meaning scholars walk on the streets, merely like everybody else who lives in there. the only potential modes of transportation are strolling and subway.
