College Homeschooling Help!?

I need help looking for a homeschooling college. I would rather do homeschooling because Im used to it.

I want to do something in the lines of children’s psychology. Does anyone know of a good homeschooling college?

Thanks!

Patrick Henry College. It is created for homeschooled students who still want the protected environment. Another option for you is Bob Jones University. It is in Greenville, South Carolina. I attended another private college near it. It is well known as a strict Christian university that is highly protective of its students. You may want to look at the website for more info.

College is much much different that high school. You should give taking classes with others a chance. It is a unique opportunity to bond with others with similar interests, gain insight from professors and share your own gifts and strengths. It prepares you for the workplace where working with others is inevitable.

I homeschool my children so trust me I know where you’re coming from but I encourage you to try the two “compromises” listed above.

There are some colleges that are more like homeschooling than others, I suppose. I went to the University of Phoenix online, and it was all at home. I won’t say it was a wonderful experience. The biggest struggle was the teaming component, which requires students to use asynchronus communication to work in a team environment. That alone was difficult, but in addition to that, each team I was on had 1 or 2 people interested in doing well, and the rest were usually willing to let them do most of the work. It was not a beneficial experience. I would seek out an online university that does not have such a heavy focus on team learning. It works much better in person.

Another option is to go to a liberal arts school that uses different methodology to get your education. For example, Evergreen college in Washington state has a different method for learning…you might go online and check them out. I am familiar with another school that basically has no curriculum, but it’s focused on the arts, and is hugely expensive.

Good luck!!!

I wouldn’t. None of those programs are going to be acceptable. Being in the 11th grade, you’re already near graduation. At this point there’s really no benefit to you. If high school is too boring or whatever, talk to your school about talking classes a local community college for dual credit. But really, at this point, I wouldn’t homeschool. If you were in 5th grade, this would be a different discussion. BUT you’re so close to graduation. I wouldn’t change it NOW. It will REALLY look suspicious. Homeschooling in general is more than acceptable in college, but the fact that you would start now is just not going to look good.

Your best bet would be to look for online courses. Check with the schools to see what requirments they need from you. Some schools will be easier than others. Most state collages will have an online program. You can also check out Patrick Henery Collage. It was founded by homeschoolers, but as I understand you would be attanding traditional classes.

There are many online and correspondence degree programs. University of Phoenix is a reputable one. They offer a BS in psychology. http://www.phoenix.edu/online_and_campus_programs/online_and_campus_programs.aspx
