I would start out at a community college and get your associates degree first. It’s much cheaper, you can get a taste of college learning, and your chances of getting into an adult degree program at a major 4-year university are much better.

While having a criminal record will make it hard for you to find work with people you don’t know, the same is not true with those you do! In college, you meet professors and fellow students who go out into the world and help you get a leg up. Make friends and build relationships with people in college, and it won’t matter to them what your record is.

No, what you are doing is very normal. Some colleges may be more comfortable for you than others, but a lot of people didn’t have an opportunity to go to school earlier and get a degree later on. At my local state university, the average undergraduate student is 27 years old, putting you right in the mix. As to the felony, it obviously will narrow your options, and you might think about a major in which this will be less of an issue. My guess is that if you were to go into banking, it could keep you from getting a job, but if you were to go into physical therapy, it would not pose anywhere near as much of a problem. Congratulations for trying to change the direction of your life. College will put you on another path altogether and, while you probably will always remember what you went through, eventually it will feel like that was another life and another person.

You’re not too old. Period. You may be uncomfortable with the age difference but that is a problem you’ve associated with going back to school. But that opinion is one you shouldn’t let interfere with such an important decision as going back to school. I suggest you buy a copy of The Pathfinder by Nicholas Lore and seriously follow it all the way through. Just figure out what your main overall goal is, because going to college isn’t the only option. If you want to do something job specific, say studio engineering then interning may be more beneficial or volunteering for free. School is an investment if you really plan to use what you learn, but figure out your main reason for going back to school, if it makes sense then do it. DON’T delay…I don’t know about the felony stuff. However if you are sincere in your efforts and stay persistent then you will do fine. Just don’t give up. I know plenty of 40+ year olds in college. And everyone makes mistakes be patient with others if they don’t seem to give you the chances you may feel you have earned once you get your degree because of your past. If you act irrational it will only mess up whatever work you’ve done, when you get your degree. Good Luck!

The average college graduate is 28 years old. Although I’m not in your situation I was scared to attempt to educate myself because I’d been out of school for two years. The fear is natural because you’ll be challenging yourself and failure is a scary thing. The best possible route to overcoming fear is confronting it and in order to ensure success I’d tell you to take baby steps in order to build your confidence in this quest to go back to college. Take one class the first semester, two the next, and just keep taking on classes each semester until you’re fully assimilated back into the atmosphere.

And, just because you have a felony doesn’t mean you cannot accomplish your dreams, think about possibly starting a business with a business administration degree. hye eric a..how r you? hp u r doing fine. well, in responding to your problem, all i can say is…education has no limit. age does not count…as long as u want to study. and you enjoy studying it. in fact i respect ppl who still want to study even they are 30 or 70 yrs old. hmm..i always tell my student to do s’thing that they like @ enjoy most..

well education is indeed very important nowadays. so, just remember, a single bullet may destroy our body but knowledge will always remain with us..
