Grey is more often used by British people, and gray is mostly used in America.

In America, it’s spelt gray, and in Europe it’s spelt gray. I doubt there’s a reason for the difference; it’s just another variation, just like there are different accents and languages around the world. Gray/grey isn’t the only word that’s spelt differently in different countries (doughnut/donut, color/colour, favorite/favourite, etc)… Hope this helped 🙂
