It’s all based on the results of your FAFSA. The FAFSA is an application for federal aid, they–the government–take this application any apply a methodology that establishes how much they think you can fairly contribute to your education, your EFC (estimated family contribution). If you have an EFC under about 4,000, you’ll get some grant aid in the way of a Pell.
Don’t take out any loans until you are sure you don’t qualify for a low interest Stafford. Almost every student qualifies for a Stafford, even if it’s only the crappy unsubsidized one.
Remember, you gotta pay those loans back, don’t take outta nickle more than you absolutely need. You ll have more freedom to pick a job you like when you get out of school. Debt is a very, very bad thing–education is a case where it becomes a necessary evil, but never be comfortable with taking a loan.

Pretty sure you can if you meet the requirements for a pell grant, just fill out a FAFSA and see. It doesnt cost anything to apply and its not real hard, if you have questions I’m sure financial aid at your college can help you.

Yes you can. I have two federal grants (Pell & SEOG) and I also have a federal loan.
