Can I have more than one major?

I am currently majoring in Middle Education with my academic components in Math and English (with 24 hours in each). How many more hours of English would I have to take to also have an English major, if it is at all possible? Can I handle both majors and still get out in four years?

Yes you can & Should. Getting a double major gives you an edge on getting the best jobs.

The number of credits required depends on your school, but your generals will work for both, usually getting a second degree is an extra 36-45 credits, but it varies by school.

Good Luck!

ps. I did not go to summer school, I was a varsity cheerleader, worked part time & I was on the president’s list. You can do it! It does take extra work, but it is not that hard.

The number of hours vary by institution and State Department of Education rules. Generally, Freshman Composition courses and the general lit courses don’t apply towards a degree in English. Can you have two majors? Of course you can. What additional courses do you need? Talk with your advisor. Can you do it? Have a conversation with yourself.

1) Yes, you can double major.

2) You’ll have to look at your course catalog to find out how many more hours you need.

3) It’s pretty hard to get out in four years with one major, let alone two. But, I guess if you load up on summer classes, take 21 hours a semester, don’ t have a life and don’t have a job you can do it in four.

Yes, you can do both majors if you work really hard. The number of credits needed depends on your university though. You should speak with the English department to find out.
