Can I get into McGill with the following?

-GPA of 3.7, but dipped twice to a 3.3 because I had all core honors classes in one semester.

-Haven’t taken SATs yet (i’m going to be a junior), but based on practice tests I have:

-Math: 500

-Critical Reading: 620

-Essay: 6 out of 6

-Taking Honors classes, will take SAT II’s.

In brutal and constructive honesty, you are on an uphill battle for McGill.

Ideally, your GPA should not drop due to honors classes. Honors classes are meant to challenge students, not frustrate them. McGill’s heaviest criteria for admissions are GPA and course load so they would not want to see such a drop just because of an honors course load. A 3.3 is well below average for McGill.

All of your SATs are below average for McGill. The average for that university is about 680 for math and 660 for reading…for a total of 1340, over 200 points higher than your projection.

Canadian schools don’t even care about extracurricular activities, essays, connections, ethnic status, geographic residency, volunteering, or work experience so those can’t save you. It’s all about academics there and frankly, you are not on track.

You do still have some time so work hard your junior year to get a solid transcript. Good Luck.
