Can anyone recommend a good Spanish Language beginners course/curriculum for a 2nd grader?

Im looking for something with software we can use on our PC, we already have muzzy, we’re looking for more focus on early grammar not just vocabulary …Thanks!

Visual Link Spanish is really a good program that teaches full sentences in the first lesson. I don’t know if it would be a little advanced for a 2nd grader or not, but you can try a lesson free on their website to see if you think it would work for you before you buy it. www.visuallinkspanish.com

I’ve heard good things about both Rosetta Stone and PowerGlide, but I’ve never used either at that level.

Both are quite expensive (about $200 per year), but some public libraries have the Rosetta Stone program available for patrons. PowerGlide has an elementary program that is “computer-based”, but much of the work is still done in the book. I wasn’t impressed with their junior high level e-course, maybe the workbook-only program is better.

We used Power Glide Junior last year for about 6 months. It was great. It was a workbook and CDs. This year we’re signing up with Rosetta Stone because I’ve heard so much about them. It’s spendy though ($250+/-) and I don’t think we’d do it if we were not in a charter.

Power Glide is really good at letting kids learn in a natural way. Much like young children learn English.

Hope that helps.

Oh, when I was getting a link for Power Glide, found this,it looks like it may be what you’re looking for.

Power Glide and Rosetta Stone, at that level, are very much just vocab based. They barely teach any grammar or syntax till jr. high/high school.

I would really recommend The Easy Spanish. It is written as a linguistics program – not just learn the colors and foods – and is extremely easy to work with. It’s also multi-level and non-consumable, so you don’t have to buy anything further, and it comes with lesson plans for each level 🙂

There are several websites that have beginner courses for free online. Some are better than others. They all have a different approach to learning the language.
