Hermia and Helena are friends.
Hermia is in love with Lysander.
Lysander is in love with Hermia.
Hermia’s father wants her to marry Demetrius. (And under their laws, her father gets to decide.)
Demetrius loves Hermia.
Hermia hates Demetrius.
Helena loves Demetrius.
Demetrius can’t stand Helena.

From what I remember, Lysander and Demetrius were both in love with Hermia, and I think Helena was in love with Demetrius (?)–I dunno. I agree, it is confusing.
