can a minor sign a loan or any other college paper work?

I started college at 15. When i turned 16 the school had me sign some papers for fasa and Direct loans.

Now that i’m 18 years old they are trying to bill me.

Can they do that since i was a minor?

Shouldn’t it fall back on the co signer or the school?

Ahh the age of majority. Here’s the deal…most states say you aren’t age of majority until 18 or 19 years of age. Therefore, you aren’t eligible to apply for a loan for a car or whatever without a cosigner. However, there is a little known federal law that says once you are in college you are eligible to sign admissions and loan paper work and be responsible for what you sign. So, if you borrowed money as a college student, even if you were 15, you are responsible for paying back the loan.

Welcome to being an adult.

If the co-signer was your parent, then probably it’s his/her responsibility too – if your parents refuse to pay, then it could be a serious issue you need to talk to your counselors and work your butt up to defray the bills – think of it this way all that responsibility will help you GROW up and become a better person

One of the reasons why I disliked going after college – the educational system should be free don’t you think so? Government spends so much money on politicians and military. In countries like France and Germany, education is free up to PhD level (NO tuition fees)
