At a typical community college, whats the social scene like compared to a big university?

Otherwise, a community college has a broader age span of students, many are commuters, so the social scene is fragmented to non-existent. There are no communal residential facilities for community colleges — most students live at home or off campus and just come in for class. That means that students rarely see each other outside of during class.
With a university, the student body is contained usually to either on campus or a couple of mile radius off campus. So you can meet more people your own age more easily because you are probably living with them. Student bodies are generally larger — in the multi-thousands so the social scene (clubs, restaurants) in the surrounding area is geared to the students. Since the community college doesn’t have that mass of consolidated population, the local businesses are not targeted to students.
I graduated from the University of Alabama in 1997, I found it to be more interesting and exciting. There is so much going on. There were lots of activities and groups.
Both are very different environments. I like the big university atmosphere better. The social scene is much better, that’s a given.
But you are there to learn first and foremost.
