As a non-resident, what are my chances of admission into UC Irvine?

I will be a Junior at Palo Verde High School next year in Las Vegas, Nevada. I’ve been wanting to go to UCI for some time now. I’ve looked around and read the website for what I should do to prepare myself for freshman admission. I was a cheerleader my freshman and sophomore year. I am not cheering next year but I am joining NHS (National Honor Society), Key Club, and International Club instead. MY class schedule for next year is Trigonometry Honors, Physics 1 Honors, AP U.S. History, AP English Lang. & Comp., AP Psychology 2, and Spanish 3 Honors, and Dance 3. Last year my GPA was around a 3.5 weighted, I believe. I plan on focusing all of my time next year into SAT/ACT Prep, getting straight A’s, and extracurricular activities. I want to major in Communications. I am verrrrrry determined and love a challenge. What are my chances of getting into UCI!??! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ PLEASE help ๐Ÿ™‚ XOxOxoX EMilEEE GOrhAm <33333333

Visit UC Irvine’s website for more information on their admission requirements. Make an appointment with your college counselor to talk about your plans to attend UC Irvine. They can give you good insight as to what you can do to prepare for college.

Some colleges limit the number of non-residents they admit. Check with UC Irvine to see if they have a limit. Most times, a student’s academic performance will determine their admission and not their residency status.

It sounds like you’re on your way to being a good candidate for college with all your academic accomplishments as well as your extra-curricular activities. Keep up the great work!

Best wishes!

UCI is not a very competitive school. I have a senior friend who’s going there next year (from Pennsylvania) and he wasn’t a straight A, high SAT type of student.

With all the extracurriculars you mentioned and if you can really get those straight As, I think you will have an easy time getting accepted. One of the major things the UCs look for is your personal essay. You have to write a killer essay. But since you’re a junior, you don’t have to worry about that just yet.

Also, try getting a decent SAT score, an 1800+ will do, but if you really want a guaranteed admission, shoot for a 2000.

A 3.5 weighted GPA is all right, not to specatacular. You must’ve gotten plenty of B’s and a few C’s (i’m guessing). But don’t worry, if you can get high As next year, it will more than make up for that GPA (with all the AP and honors classes).

Just keep trying hard and maintain your academics and extracurriculars. I think you’ll have a great shot at the admissions
