Are there benefits of having a MS in mechanical engineering before getting an MBA?

I have a BS from a top-tier engineering school, and have been working in industry for a large medical device company for a year. I am considering getting an MS (after two years of industry experience) to further my technical knowledge of device design and the industry. I am also interested in global management (for R&D or product development) and am considering that as a long-term career path. Will having the MS be a benefit in B-school or will it be a waste of money and time that could’ve been spent gaining more industry experience?
