Your going into 9th grade!! Trust me from experience, you should not even be THINKING about the SAT’s right now!! You take the PSAT (a shorter version of the SAT) October of your junior year and then you take the real one in the spring of your junior year. If you are not happy with your score, you can always take it again in the fall of your senior year, as a lot of kids that I know are going to do. PLEASE don’t put yourself under stress at this point because the SAT is a long ways away. You should start studying for the test about 4 months before the actual test. Study, study, study!!! I would highly recommend the College Board’s Official SAT Study Guide and maybe a prep class if you think you need it. Trust me, the best way to study for the SAT is too do as many practice tests as possible. This is key to being succesful on the SAT. Have confidence in yourself and even though it is a hard test, the more you study (later on, not now!) you will feel prepared enough to conquer it.

As a student entering the 9th grade, you don’t have to take the SAT just yet. The practice wouldn’t hurt, but it is a lot of money to spend when you are so far from graduating. The SAT is offered several times every year, so you have your pick of test dates.

Perhaps the best way to study for standardized tests like the PSAT, SAT, and ACT is to take the practice tests under normal testing conditions. It will give you a good idea how you would score on the real thing. Then carefully review your missed answers until you understand them.

Good luck!

It depends on how you define hard. If you read a lot, generally do well on standardized tests, and feel comfortable with math (especially without a calculator) it’s not hard to score 600s or better on the test. The best place to go to find out more info on the SAT is www.collegeboard.com They actually have a free online test (I believe it is the test that was administered October 2005) that you can download. Take a good look at it. The site even gives explanations of the answers to the free test. They are the best place to find out about the test because they license ETS (the Educational Testing Center) to write the test for them.

They are pretty hard, but become easier with the right guide. When I first took the SAT, my score was low in the mid 1700s but then I got the sat guide from TutorFox: http://www.tutorfox.com/satguide.html and my score went up to 2190 (800 math, 760 writing, 630 reading). I highly recommend this guide for anyone wishing to get a higher SAT score.

I’d say wait until 11th grade to start preparing. You can take the PSAT in 10th grade if you want, but don’t study until 11th grade.

Ok! Here are some questions you can practice on; How many changes or amendments are there to the constitution? What are the three branches of our government? Who becomes president of the U.S. if the president and vice president should die?

They are public information–published, and available in many libraries. Learn to read, develop an adult vocabulary, learn geometry, and learn algebra. Look at the old tests: you can see that that is what is tested.

the highest math that is on there is algebra 2

the writing section is the hardest one on there, but it’s still fine

don’t worry about it now, you’re going to be a freshman… it won’t affect you for another two years
