Appropriateness of thank you letter for recommender(s)?
I have recently recieved a scholarship from the school I attend. I was required to submit two letters of recommendation, my question is this, is it expected of me to send thank you letters to the recommenders (as I will do for the scholarship) Also, for one of the recommenders I only have an email address and no mailing address because she is not teaching at my school anymore, should I just send her an email, or send her an email asking where to send her a thank you card too?
thanks

Yes, do send thank you notes for both recommendations. Email is fine for the one whose address you’re missing.

You got a scholarship…you only needed 2 recommendations, how much time or effort does it take to say thank-you to two people? It doesn’t even need to be a letter. An email would work in both situations. It’s the thought that counts!

My guidance counselor told me that its nice to send a thank you card and then also a five dollar gift card to starbucks or something like that. but if you don’t have a mailing address an email would be fine too.
