Appropriate level flute music for college auditions?

I am currently entering my senior year in high school, and thus am frantically researching college options.

I plan on majoring in music, either in theory or education.

Former band directors have told me they consider me to be quite accomplished for my age.

I’ve never worked with a private instructor before, and I know I could benefit, but I like the challenge of working on my own.

However, I’m completely stuck as to what level of music I should be looking for for college auditions.

So far the colleges I’ve been looking at are giving pretty vague information regarding music selection and it’s not really helping.

My gut is telling me to stick with something I feel really comfortable with, but I don’t want to audition with a piece they consider too easy and thus overlook my potential.

Any advice would be great. 🙁

I played the clarinet from 6th grade-12th grade, I didnt’ audition for college, but my friend did, she played oboe though, she used grade 6 pieces and had all of the major and minor scales memorized, and played a chromatic scale…

this was 7 years ago, im sure things have changed…i would play the maximum level music piece you can…impress them!!

you could always call the department, i wouldnt rely on a website or anything…
