any tips for a college freshman?
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for getting along with roommates, making friends, and basically just adjusting and surviving freshman year

How to get along with roommates: Work on communication!! It can be tough or easy – talk to your roommates EARLY on about pet peeves and how to talk to each other if you start to get on each other’s nerves. (IT WILL HAPPEN. Every relationship worth having eventually comes into conflict – how you resolve conflict will define the quality of your relationship). Your RA can be a great coach…so start on the right foot early. Do not be like the ostrich and bury your head in the sand if there’s a problem…address it! (and remember, when you do – she might have a few things to talk to you about too!)
Making friends? 1 – get involved in something that sounds cool or you’re interested in. 2 – Secretly pretend you are Katie Couric and ask questions of people you meet to find common ground quickly. People are starving to tell their story and if you take a sincere interest in them and listen – you’ll be a very popular friend. Everyone is scared and we all have more in common than we think – use that to your advantage and go get your mingle on.

just remember everyone is as nervous as you are. Remember to spend the bulk of your time studying your first semester, then you can relax a little after that and learn to socialize more. You don’t want to start off with all the socializing and flunk out.
