Another only in singular form?

I found that another is used only in singular form. If this is true why ths is correct: He lived for another five years.

Can sb explain me that?

Another two apples, but NOT another apples.

Another can be followed by a number but not a plural.

The word another is an adjective with several definitions:

1 : different or distinct from the one first considered

2 : some other

3 : being one more in addition to one or more of the same kind

I think it gets confusing when used in the way demonstrated above in definition 3. Being one more in addition,by its very nature “seems plural.” However, notice that in the example you cite, as well as the one given by another answerer (about the apples) the word that follows “another” is not plural but does indicate a quantity.

It’s correct because it refers to ONE period of five years.
