American Japanese that were put in prison camps in 1942 in united stats?

To anyone who thinks it was right – why aren’t we doing it now if it wasn’t a horrible thing to do. Leave it to the Democrats.

In retrospect it looks like a horrible thing, and in many ways it made us not much better than the enemy.

but my dad was a WWII veteran and we talked about it.

We who were not there should not be too harsh.

There was a great deal of widespread panic and this was one response that was deemed necessary by a lot of people. Many like my Dad did not hate Japanese, but it was reaction to the atrocities commited by the Japanese.

This may seem hard to believe but a great many of the Japanese were in fear of their lives at this time as anti-Japanese sentiment was very high, one of the reasons they were moved was for their protection.

To judge without trying to understand only makes you guilty of the same knee jerk reactions that cuased this in the first place.

and FYI, they were not “prison camps” Internment camps were a lot more lenient than prison camps. there was one in the town I live in. The detainees were mostly Italians and they were allowed to go into town on leave after proving themselves trustworhy, they were treated relatively well, many of them settled here after the war and did not feel resentment of their treatemnt.

I am not sure what your question is, but it is true that in 1942 some Japanese were put in prison camps in the USA. especially in California, where sentiments were high, against the Japanese. It was said that one reason for their imprisonment was for their safety, to protect them against irate Americans.

huh…go figure. they’ve always proclaimed themselves to be the guardians of personal liberty, but their history is radically different.
