Sure! Leaves decompose…and name decompose.

hm. Evergreen needles sure do decompose. I have some in my compost heap. Deciduous leaves do also (like from oaks and maples). All organic matter decomposes….
however…
some takes longer. Waxy leaves like eucalyptus decompose slowly. Oak leaves take two seasons to decompose in my compost heap, mostly because they become matted layers and just sit there. I have heard that cypress wood chips do not decompose in a human lifetime and thus should not be tilled into soil.
Leaves from plastic plants do not decompose. 🙂

Trees like pines, the needles do not decompose.
