After med school when u go to residency training do u HAVE to live where ur training?

or can u live in a an apartment or something?

Haha, it’s not that scary as it used to be. They may try and scare you by saying you live in the hospital in the on call room, but that’s only occasionally. You’ll need to find an apartment or house. No one is actually going to live out of the hospital for their entire residency period.

Before, you might have to be on call for 48 hours straight. I believe they’ve passed new rules that limit it to 36 hours straight.

Most doctors in residency live in an apartment or in their home, actually, so this is a definite option for you, especially as you will receive a fairly stable salary in residency. You may want to live close by, though, as residents must be on call during the week for several days in a row. That means if they need you at any time, you will be called into the hospital to work and must come in.

You can live in an apartment (or something). Some nights though you might have to stay at the hospital. Good luck for you if you’re going into a residency!
