Advice on teachin in an alternative year round school?
I need some advice on accepting a job at a year round alternative residential school. This school is for students who have mental health issues and are in long term residential for 6-18 months. The issues is the school is newly set up and year round but there are no scheduled breaks for the students or teacher throughout the year. It seems to me that there would be at least 2 weeks in the summer and a break during Christmas. I was told that teachers could coordinate between each other for a week off here and there but I think that could be conflicting when everyone wants the 4th of July week off or Memorial Day, or Christmas. Please give me some imput or thoughts about what you think about this situation? Please share if you have any related experiences.

If you are a certified teacher with special Ed. you would do better for yourself if you go to public school and teach . Weekends/ holidays off, Summers off, second job opportunity in Summer to increase income or take a trip.
Then again. If you want to help people with special needs in an alternative school. People do it for the love of the job. If you question if you can do it, or really want to do it, maybe its a wrong decision. Public school is always an option if your certified as a teacher.
Hope I have been a help.

I went to Mission Christian that was a 45-15, we went for 45 or 9 weeks and then we had a 3 week break. It was Accelerated Christian Education, and we were all surfers so the three weeks off when other students didn’t have it off was great. I think you should look up the Educational Codes for your state, I bet you find out that year round school without breaks, is not legitimate. I found this following sight, hope it helps..
