I’d like to preface my answer with the fact that I just graduated from college, so it’s been quite a few years since I took the SAT’s and ACT’s, but I can give you the knowledge I have from when I took the tests.

The SAT’s have math, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and now even a writing portion. The ACT’s have math, reading, vocabulary, grammar/sentence structure, and even some science.

I would say the SAT’s are much more logic-based than the ACT’s. You had to infer and deduce many of the answers in the math and reading comprehension parts. I felt the ACT’s had much more straight forward answers.

My suggestion is to take both because you can, and you may like one testing style over the other and therefore do better on one test.

Another thing to add to what has already been said: on the SAT you get minus .25 points for questions answered incorrectly but on the ACT you don’t get any deduction for answering incorrectly. I have taken both and I think the ACT is definitely easier.

SATs test your common knowledge that you’ve learn thoughout your life.

ACTs test the stuff you learn in high school. Math is a bit harder than SATs math… and the science is quite difficult, though most is based on logic.

ACTs are shorter 🙂 and you get optional essay.. but you pay more if you want to take it.
