Well the simple answer is that they studied pharmacy in college. To be a pharmacist you will need to complete pharmacy school. This generally takes six years to complete and you will receive a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD). The pharmacy program usually consists of 2 years of pre-pharmacy coursework, then you apply to pharmacy school. Pharmacy school is usually 3 years of course work and one year of rotations. Getting into pharmacy school is really competitive. To get in, you will need to have good grades (high GPA), you will have to take a standardized test called the PCAT and score well on it, and you will probably need some sort of experience, either working as a pharmacy tech or shadowing a pharmacist, which will be no problem for you.
As far as being filthy rich, while pharmacist are well paid, I would hardly consider them filthy rich. MDs make more money than most pharmacists, although medical school does take longer than pharmacy.
A normal day for a pharmacist? My brother is one and manages his own pharmacy. His days are long and busy. He lives and works in Phoenix and there is a shortage of pharmacists there. He works 10-12 hours a day and about 60-70 hours a week. He has a hard time taking any days off and has taken one vacation in the last five years.
