What do you think of this?

(English version)

Quiet, sweet, mysterious-

The rose sits on its vine,

Symbols life or death-

It holds its sure sign.

(French version)

Silencieux, doux, mystérieux

Le fait de monter s’assoit sur c’est la vigne,

La vie de symboles ou la mort,

Il tient il a sûr le signe.

Quiet, sweet, mysterious – yes.

I would say that each reader could very well get a different meaning from this poem.

This short impression is obviously sent with caring, coming from something inside this young lady(I presume) that is represented by the rose(a beautiful flower, presented or used at both sad and glad occasions of all kinds).

Either that or ‘she’ has read this in both English and French versions and has felt the need to share it.

‘Nuff said, except Happy Birthday next month and many happy returns. I honestly feel that you are a bit sad right now and at least need a greeting. Your birthday, hopefully will be a good day, as all your other days should be, one at a time.

My best – Mark B.

P.S. ‘…bday…’ – I was disappointed to see your response to another question using the word ‘black’. I will not retract what I have said, a little melancholy on my part, but I guess maybe I was ‘off target’.

I don’t remember enough of my French to be an expert, but i think the translation loses some of the sensitivity…

doux means sweet as in a food. Maybe choose another word?

I have no idea what “le fait de monter” means, but “rose” is the same in English and French and it’s nowhere in the french version….

If you want to say “symbols of life or death” you should say “une symbole de la vie ou du mort” because the way you say it, it says “the life of symbols or death”.

The last line isn’t translated properly…but i’m not sure what it SHOULD say.

Try reposting this and asking to translate properly…there are many errors.

In response, I write you this:

Simple, sincere, infectious-

The words were peaceful and pure.

In seeking to provide mental stimulation,

She unknowing provided the mental cure.

Sincerely,

Rich
