How do you spell…?

It sounds like sko-ch. As in, “add just a skoch of pepper.” Is that the way you spell it?

I am very good both with words and cooking, but never ran across that one. Must be a colloquialism. You don’t mention whether it is a long O or a short O. If short, it could be “scotch”. One of the definitions of that word is “inclined to frugality”, which would indicate “a pinch of pepper”.

If the origin is Japanese, how come I hear it in only western European and Western countries? Just wondering. And if it means both in uch different languages, how did that happen? Just wondering. all very exciting. I know, I must be boring, but I love word origins!

Pronounced “SKOWSH” Schoche is a Deutche word meaning Lil Bit. It actually refered to a womans behind. So if asked if you got any over the weekend you would reply “Just a Schoche”

this word is spelled “skosh”, and is slang for “a little bit”.

It comes from the Japanese word sukoshi, which also means “a little bit”.
