Why is the number 7 “natural”?
I have heard the number 7 referred to as “natural.” It’s some kind of an old guy expression. Could someone please tell me what it means and why it is called that?

In mathematics, a natural number can mean either an element of the set {1, 2, 3, …} (i.e the positive integers or the counting numbers) or an element of the set {0, 1, 2, 3, …} (i.e. the non-negative integers). Natural numbers have two main purposes: they can be used for counting (“there are 3 apples on the table”), and they can be used for ordering (“this is the 3rd largest city in the country”).

I don’t know but I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that with two dice, there are six ways to roll a combination totaling 7, and only five or less ways to roll anything else, making seven the easiest, or most natural result of a two dice roll.

Either it has to do with the number seen as a good luck number, or from the game of craps (or any other game involving dice) in which seven has more possible number combinations than the others (6, 1; 1,6; 5,2, 2,5; 4,3. 3,4)
