I’ve never heard of AP English Language, not sure what that is. I took AP English Lit and it was easy. If you don’t have time to read all the books, buy the cliff notes (that’s what I did 🙂 All you have to do to get college credit is get a C on the exam (of course, to pass the course, you need to do the work!)

It is REALLY worth your money, because that $75 exam will save you over $400, because you get one year’s credit of English courses. I was exempt from Lit. 101 and 102 at college (spring and fall semester) because I passed the tests. That’s 6 credits total!! It adds up fast. BTW, your AP test grade doesn’t count towards your college GPA (mine never showed up on my report card in college), so don’t stress too much!

Go ahead with AP Lit. You might have an easier time with AP Lit if you are better at analyzing literature than you are at making random arguments. If you get higher than a 3 next time, you will probably receive college credit. If you don’t, you’ll still get a good grade in Lit (unless the teacher is evil), and a good grade in an AP class will look good on your college applications. Also, if reading comprehension was one of your weak points, you could practice doing reading passages like ones on the AP Lit exam–learn strategies. This could improve your score a bit.

I just took AP Lang too!

My AP Lang teacher said that AP Lit is a LOT easier than AP Lang, because Lang is more about grammar and structure of things and dissecting the writing and Lit is more about the stories and the characters and stuff. There’ll probably be a lot of reading but the work should be easier than the work for Lang if you’re not a grammar/rhetorical strategies person.

I think you should take it. It’ll be worth it because you don’t want colleges to think that you’re taking easier classes even though you can handle AP. Plus, I think AP English Lit will be less difficult for you now that you have experience with Lang. And if you get a 3 or higher again, you can get more college credit (depending on the college).

I would take it. Getting a three on a different AP exam means nothing. These tests/courses are different subjects. You can be great at reading, understanding plot, character motives, etc, and still be terrible at vocabulary and grammar. Go for it! It’s a different course, not a repeat.

Also, colleges like to see that you’ve challenged yourself. Taking even just one more AP course looks good to an admissions officer, as long as you keep your grade above 80, or so.

Depending on your school policies, if it turns out the class is too hard, then you could always drop the class.

haha I got a 3 too…not too excited by it….

but yea, take AP Lit next year, go for it! It looks good on your transcript, and AP scores senior year don’t matter so much because you’ll already be in college! Unless you want credit for it, but a lot of schools don’t alwys give credit.

I’m taking it next year, hopefully I’ll do okay! You will too…

My world lit teacher, Mr.Canney at CCHS said that AP English Lit will definitely strenghten your writing skills and writing in college will surely be easier. I should know, I signed up for it next year in the 11th.

girl, i would suggest you do not take it….It is exactly the same as regular English, but just more work that you shouldn’t have to do. besides, once you get to college, you will need to take freshman English, and you cannot test out of it…at least that’s how it is at my college here in Wyoming. If you barely got a 3 on your exam, you do not want to risk getting a bad grade, and ruining your GPA for high school…if you take a regular English, you can get a high grade, making your GPA better, with more scholarship opportunities! good luck!

It’s up to you.

I know a person who got a 3 on their APLANG exam and scored a 5 on their APLit.

I’d try, sure. If you do well, you can get college credit, and even if you don’t do well, at least it shows on your transcript that you tried and challenged yourself.
