In general, there is a balance between organisms, animals and plants that depend on each other to survive — there can neither be an unnatural increase or decrease in the population or growth without affecting other populations.

* In a food chain, the population of each of the organisms affects the others. If there are too many predators, such as wolves in an area, and they eat too many of the rabbit or deer, then the vegetation these animals eat may grow out of proportion, affecting other factors in the environment.

An extreme example is when humans introduce an animal into a region with no natural predators, where the population explodes, threatening the native populations. This happened with introducing the mongoose to nonnative areas (with the intent of reducing the snakes eating endangered bird eggs, but instead causing a greater threat to the birds since the mongoose also eats the bird eggs).

* In a forest ecosystem, the trees in the environment can affect the population of other animals and species. For example, if the trees die or get cut down on the river banks, the erosion of soil into the river can destroy the salmon population. This affects the animals that eat the salmon, which then affects both the food supply the animals eat or predators that prey on the animals themselves. Human development that reduces forest land has also affected migratory paths and mating cycles of different species.

* In an ocean ecosystem, longterm reduction of certain species of fish or other animals in a certain area can cause predators to migrate to new areas in search of food, changing the dynamic and balance of other ecosystems.

It means: Explain how living things are dependent on each other for survival and other aspects of life. For instance, flowers are dependent on bees in order to pollenate. People and some animals are dependent on bees for honey. Bees are dependent on flowers to make honey to store in their honeycomb.
