Algebra 2 Summer Homework!?
Mrs. Chin bought some $0.20 stamps and an equal number of $0.32 stamps. She paid a total of $5.20 for all of the stamps. How many of each type of stamp did Mrs. Chin buy?
Favorite Answer
You have to think of the number of 20-cent stamps as X and the number of 32-cent stamps as Y.
However, if she bought an equal number of stamps, then you know that y=x.
So:
20x + 32y = 520
insert y=x:
20x + 32 x = 520
then solve for x:
52x = 520
x =10
and if you want to verify to make sure:
10*0.20 + 10*0.32
=2+3.2=$5.20
good luck!
Then a is also the number of $0.32 stamps.
Then:
20a + 32a = 520
(20 + 32)a = 520
52a = 520
Divide by 52:
a = 10.
She bought 10 of each.
therefore: What’s your question?
