Moors. They were Muslims from North Africa who ruled part of Spain from around 750 AD until they were finally driven out in 1492 AD

It was occupied by the Moors. Especially Spain. The invasion started in the 700’s and lasted until the Inquisition. As I recall. You may want to research particular details online. But it was definitely the Moors. It’s why Osama Bin Laden thinks Spain is an Arabic country. They’ve occupied it longer than the Spanish.
