My son is homeschooled, and has a goal to become a doctor. We’ve already spoken with the university where he will most likely take pre-med, and they have absolutely no problem with him being homeschooled. Actually, they recruit homeschooled students – as in they have scholarship money set aside specifically for hs students.

We’ve looked into the requirements for pre-med and med studies, and he has started to prepare now. He’s had 2 years of Latin and is starting Greek (he’s 9), takes an ambitious science and math load, and does a study each year, increasing in difficulty, in anatomy. By the time he’s 16-17 he’ll have taken pre-calc to calc, AP Bio, AP Chem, probably AP Physics, have taken multiple years of Spanish, Latin and Greek (as well as any other languages he wants to study), and have finished college work in most other subjects.

Yes, homeschooled children can get into professions like medicine and law, if that’s what they’re willing to work for. The diploma that they get is just as legitimate as what the schools hand out (many colleges no longer require a GED). You have to keep good records – basically, you’re the teacher and guidance counselor – but yes, definitely, a homeschooled child can become a doctor.

Through homeschooling, you can tailor your curriculum to your child’s needs. Their learning style, strengths and weaknesses, interests, and future plans can all be taken into consideration and planned for.

I believe absolutely that a child who is home schooled can become a doctor one day. However, the basic educational standards need to be met. I would assume that the GPA would also have to be seriously considered and of course even though the child is home schooled, they would still need to take an ACT or SAT test. Most pre-doctorate programs require a certain baseline or higher score on those tests. The student typically needs to excel in Math and Science since a lot of the medical classes rely heavily on those. Quite a few doctors have their undergraduate degrees in Science or Physics.

I would suggest that home schooling be done through a program on the Internet if the parent or person doing the schooling does not have a teaching degree. Leave the teaching to the people who are trained to do it. But that is just my opinion.

To become a dr you have to go to college, then med school, then do a residency. All colleges accept homeschoolers. Homeschooled kids can get scholarships, can get into ivy league, etc. Once you are in college it doesn’t make a difference whether you went to high school or homeschooled. My daughter unschooled and went to university on full scholarship, and by the time she started she had 50 college credits under her belt.

Usually, before you go to medical school, you have to have an undergraduate degree from a college or university. Most colleges and universities have special applicaton procedures for home-schooled students. So yes, it is very much possible.

If you were homeschooled and got your GED, you can just apply for college like everyone else. They may have you take some sort of test, but if you pass it, then there is no problem. Lots of people are homeschooled and go to college to become many different things.

But can anyone give me an example of anyone who was home-schooled who became a physician, an attorney, or a scientist?
