The gerund and present participle of a verb are the form ending in -ing: forgiving, leaving, coming, and so on.
There are past participles as well as present participles. Gerunds relate only to present participles.
Gerunds are used as nouns:
WALKING is enjoyable.
Present participles are used as adjectives:
I have been WALKING for four hours.
Gerunds cannot be used with an auxiliary verb.
That’s not five differences, but it’s all I can think of.
