Would someone be able to give me some ideas for this?

“Analyse the heat of reactions of various fuels used today, compared with effective output (i.e. efficiency). Consider points such as effects on environment, cost, etc.”

I just need a little bit of help to get started…like a few ideas that i can use for my chemistry essay. Much appreciated!! Thanks!!

umm..nice blond hair Eli!..hehe

well, let’s see, the heat of reactions of various fuels today

..

well take note of these:

>Fossil fuels are “non-renewable energy sources ” that formed more than 300 million years ago during the Carboniferous Period..so whenever the time comes, when they’re all used up – we’ll have to wait for millions of years again.

>Fossil fuels are an important asset to this world, providing energy that allows humans to progress in various different ways. Whether it is from traveling, to making new products, or to heating homes, fossil fuels have allowed humans to enjoy an easier lifestyle due to their production of energy. Yet, fossil fuels have their negative aspects as well, and these involve the environment. Although fossil fuels have allowed humans to progress, they have harmed the environment and could have consequential effects.

>Petroleum is a fossil fuel that has many negative effects on the environment. It is attained by drilling in oil wells, and the heavy equipment used to drill often damages the areas around these wells.

>Offshore drillings cause a lot of oil spills in the ocean, and oil spills also occur with the transportation of petroleum by large tankers. These oil spills damage the ecosystems and the wildlife of the region(s) where they may spill.

>Combustion of oil is a predominant factor in harming the environment as well. Combustion releases the chemicals: carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrous oxides. Carbon dioxide is a gas responsible for global warming, and the other two are responsible for acid rain. As a matter of fact, oil’s overall use contributes to 40% of the world’s CO2 emissions, and burning oil emits the most Nitrogen oxide than any other fossil fuel, which causes acid rain.

>Coal is one of the most popular fossil fuels, yet unfortunately, it is one of the most harmful to the environment.

First, the process of gathering coal has many environmental problems. Surface mining causes the destruction of vegetation and topographical features, while long-wall mining causes land to sink or subside in certain areas. The wastes from coal produce acid drainage, which contains a lot of harmful chemicals that eventually leak and travel through the Earth to streams, lakes, and rivers.

>>rise of global/environmental temperature are caused by fossil, coal..burning, etc..thus causing greenhouse effect ..that causes rapid evaporation, melting of polar ice caps, and extreme weather conditions. When burned, coal also releases particular matter such as fly ash, and the chemical sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide contributes to acid rain, because when it is released into the atmosphere, it combines with moisture to form sulfuric acid. This then falls back to the Earth as acid rain, causing many negative effects on the environment.

>The largest emission of carbon dioxide comes from coal combustion, and the second largest emission is from the use of automobiles.

>Fossil fuels have helped the world, but at the same time they have harmed it. Therefore, countries have been taking many initiatives to reduce the harmful effects of fossil fuel use. This is because the condition of the environment is slowly deteriorating, for global warming has become a huge problem, and pollution throughout the world has begun to harm its inhabitants. Hopefully, fossil fuels will be able to be utilized in the future in such a way that benefits human beings, but doesn’t harm Earth.

—ohh my i think what i wrote are negative outputs..

A comparison on Nuclear fuels and Fossil fuels

Try to prepare a comparison chart for different fuels like, petrol, kerosen, wood, coal, nuclear fules.

The attributes of camparison may be…cost,pollution rte,Thermal effeciency,specific heat,residue left….

from these now u can conclude which is the best as of now.

make a note of alternate fuels available like bio diesel, etc

(pollution free)

A few things you could consider fuel to write about are: gasoline, kerosene, diesel, wood, coal, and natural gas
