1. When a 7kg projectile is fired from a cannon barrel that has a length of 2.5m, the explosive force exerted on the projectile while it is in the barrel varies in the manner shown in the graph below. Assume that the barrel is horizontal and neglect the effects of friction inside the barrel. Determine the approximate work done on the projectile, while inside the barrel, by the gases from the exploding gunpowder.

Work Done = Force * Distance

In your graph, the y axis is force and the x axis is distance.

Find the area under the graph, which is the work done.

To get that area, split the graph into triangles and rectangles.

area of triangle = 1/2 * base * height

area of rectangle = length * breadth

From what I am seeing, you should get 2 triangles and 1 rectangle. 😉
