English system (Imperial) is too complicated, whereas metric is universal and easy to comprehend. It’s okay if you have grown up knowing it, but it very hard to learn it as a foreigner.

The number system is decimal. Other systems of measurements followed varying systems of multiples. (12 inches is one foot etc). In order to simplify the calculations and comprehension, SI units were introduced and these units are also decimal.
The old measurements were often related to the measurements of human body and human life where as SI units, artificially set up for scientific measurements, lack “human touch”. So when it comes to the measurements that involve day to day activities of human beings, it is always better to use old system of units. Even now the room sizes, coat and bed sizes etc are given in multiples of old units of measurement.

all metrics are based on a base number of 10, Imperial and US use different base number for different measurements, can be a bit confusing and causes rounding problems in mathematical formulas

Because the change is constant throughout, i.e. mm, cm, m, km.
imperial is not 12in = 1 foot. 3 feet = 1 yard etc
One word answer = simplicity
