If you’re 12 are you a young man/woman?

I’m 12 and was wondering, am I a young man? All the teachers and older kids at my school treat all of the people in my year like babies. Like, we were about to be able to go out of school for lunches, but everyone said no because the year 7’s will get lost. I was so glad, now that I’m going into year 8, and now I have discovered that people treat year 8’s the same. Please help!?

You are a child and be glad of it. Striving to be something you are not is a waste of time.

It has been shown time and time again that childhood and play is extremely important in development. So the faster you seek to become an adult the worse sort of adult you are likely to be.

Wanting to be seen as an adult at your age underlines that you are probably more childish than most kids of your age.

No! And love being twelve while you can! I wasn’t 12 too, too long ago and I wish I never got older. As you get older you start to realize more and more of your best friends change and soon enough can become your worst enemies and things just begin to get more and more complicated. Just chill out! Sometimes older people do that to young people, or people new to a school or whatever.

No, you are not a young man YET and be damn happy. I remember people telling me this and me nodded like i agreed with them and then in my head thinking “yeah, shut up you’re a **** face. you know nothing!” but I found out how right they were.

When it’s in the advantage of parents, teachers or older people than you are a young man/woman else not 😛

Older Children always like to treat the younger as babies I think they feel very cool to do that…

It’s not excactly the same treatment in year 8, but it looks like it is;)..

Anyway, when yer still a kid;)

In some ways you are a young man, but basically you are still a kid. You are entering adolescence, which means these two phases intersect and it is not always obvious what the situation is.. It is not entering the 8th that makes you a man all of a sudden, it is how you go on acting that does. You are growing up, enjoy!

As a high school teacher in WA the (very) general thing is to closely supervise your age group. Simply put, most students are still on primary school mode and need guidance.

You sound mature for your years which is more of an advantage as you get further along. For now, just accept that teachers have a legal and moral duty of care and that is why they “spoon feed you.”

So don’t take that pastoral care as them thinking that you CAN’T do things for yourself. They just have to cover themselves.

Hey! why not show that maturity from the word go and help supervise the others in your class groups?….

You are not until you are 18

It’s okay to think of yourself as a young man, but technically, you’re just a preteen. You become a man at 18, so you can officially consider yourself a young man when you’re around 16 or so.

you shouldn’t worry what people [adults] call you. if you’re mature, you’re mature. if not, that’s totally normal. and don’t let anyone treat you poorly or misjudge you for your age or grade. i’ve had enough of 13 years to know that i don’t care what negative things people have to say….and nobody else should either.
