Job requirements/tips for community college professors?
I have a bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Social Work. I don’t have any teaching experience per se, but I think I’d be a great professor, and I’d like to look into getting a job teaching college courses like intro level psychology or gerontology. Any ideas if I need to have a teaching certificate or other training to get into this field? Or does it just depend on the school and how desperate they are for qualified teachers? Thanks for any and all help with this!

It is true that many community colleges are now looking for PhD level faculty (though most don’t require them yet). Most CC and four year programs do hire adjunct faculty (and this is your best way in). If you have an expertise in gerontology you might approach your local MSW/BSW program and see if they need/want anyone to teach in this area. Now usually electives are harder to get unless it is an area not held in the faculty. A good way into teaching in social work programs is teaching in the field program, getting known and moving into other courses.
There is no official teaching requirement, though many education departments offer a course on teaching in the college environment (some even have a credential). You might consider this to bolster you resume/vita. Be sure to build your vita and document any/all trainings, workshops and presentations you have done.
