What is a good amount of money to be making after high school?
I just graduated my private high school in California. I’m trying to find a job and I’m wondering what is a good hourly wage to be making at this point in my life? Every place I apply at only offers $7 an hour, and I made a dollar more than that back when I was in high school! I know I don’t really have any ‘qualifications’, but could I be making more than minimum wage now? I’m just curious to what peoples thoughts are on the subject at hand.

Without a college education it is going to be difficult to get directly into a high paying position, obviously. My boyfriend didn’t go to college and is a painter. After a year with the company he is making 11.50 an hour. (He started out at 9/hr) I’m in college but I also work (We both graduated from high school by the way), and I make 6.00 an hour in retail. I’ll be getting my first raise in october when I have been at the company for a year, and hopefully moving up to assisstant manager soon as well. Without college, and possibly even with college depending on the field you go in to, you are going to have to start from the bottom and work your way up to higher pay. It sucks, but that is just the way life is. You said it yourself, you don’t have any “qualifications” so no buisness is going to pay you more than you’re worth.
