How accurate is wikipedia encyclopedia?
I see it quoted and used a references all the time. Why don’t people use encyclopedias as reference instead of a wiki.

Wiki is pretty accurate.
You may not think so because anyone can edit it, but they have moderators who watch what is edited. EX. try to put a swear word in the science portal. Removed in 30 seconds.
xD Use it if you want, just check what you read.

It is my understanding that ANYONE can edit the articles on wikipedia, so it can’t be that accurate of a source.
There are a lot of stupid people out there, and somehow they find their way to the internet. They seem to flock to it, esp YA.

Wikipedia is as accurate as you believe it to be. Don’t forget anybody can edit it and there are some crazy people in this world.

It’s as accurate as the people who edit it. Probably 85% accurate (the new articles may not be genuine, and some people are interested in vandalism).

Some of my friends “play” wikipedia. They make changes to numbers in data samples, dates, etc. and see how long it takes to be changed. If you can, I would pick a new source.

Don’t rely on it, it’s not a source for accurate information. Many people don’t realize it not a legitimate source for information and data.

teachers at a local middle school don’t rely on wikipedia because it was actually made by high school students (The Teachers stated to those students).

I’ve edited numerous articles.
Which is why my IP address is now banned.
