E.g. A kinetic learner would learn by practical methods, a visual learner would benefit from colour when you are studying and audio – possibly recording your notes and listening to them back.
Many people are a mix of these, such as myself. The most important thing is to stay organised, keep all your notes from your classes in folders and make sure you divide the topics.
Then set yourself a timetable for each subject and topic, working through, allow yourself enough time before exams! The place to study varies also, many people prefer to study in a library or at school, as there are little distractions, that are at home – (TV!). Also at the library you have many resources at your disposal. I prefer to study in my bedroom, I feel more comfortable, so the best place is where you feel you can work in peace and quiet, without any temptations.
Make sure you study in 15- 20 min segments, it is proven that your brain can only take in so many minutes of information, and will not take anymore in. Have a 5 minute break in between these, have some fruit, water, and fish is good for the brain!
In terms of revision methods, I find a mindmap the best method for me personally. Where I take a subtopic and place the title in the middle of a piece of paper, then I write the main headings from that topic and fill in the information around that, don’t use to many words, just phrases that capture the key points. Then most importantly colour it in! Colour helps your brain to retain information – especially visual learners, but everyone else as well. Add pictures or diagrams, and then stick them up on your wall, (not cool I know) but it will help, or places you know you will see them.
Also try record cards with small facts on, simply reading through your notes will not be effective. Well I hope this helps – and good luck, however you should enjoy the summer, and worry about study until you get back!
I mean if its a definition, formular or anything, write down couple of times….Coz more you write it tends to retain in your mind for a long time….And after studying any chapter, make sure you review it every two or three weeks time….May be by way of doing an exam questions only from that chapter….Like wise every two-three weeks review a single chapter….That way you will be able to retain it for a long time….and the BEST WAY to master a subject is by teaching a subject or a chapter to a fellow student after studying….That way you will understand every corner of that subject….
On a table is the ONLY place that I can recomend….Not on a sofa, not on a bed or anywhere else….If you have your own room better to study there….and make sure you will not get disturbed by any other person….If the exam is very close switch off the mobile, so that you will not get disturbed by anyway….
Generally, I will not recommend for anyone to study till very late night or early in the morning….Generally, you should have a minimum of six hours continuous sleep….But for some ppl studying in early morning or studying till late night works….So it depends on the way that you have got used to!!!!If you are not used to anything….Then sleeping at around 11.30 pm and getting up at around 5.30am is the best….
When studying, its better if you can have a time table….If ever you want to suceed in the exam, DECIPLINE is a must….I mean minimize night outs, minimize hanging out, minimize watching TV….You know what I mean….
But it is recomended that you take a half an hour break every 2 hours, if you are studying at a stretch….That way your retention rate will be higher, thus the effectiveness will be higher….
IF EVER YOU ARE STUCK FOR TIME, THEN YOU SHOULD DECIDE OR TAKE ADVICE FROM A WELL PREPARED STUDENT TO SKIP LESS PROBABLE AREAS….BUT IF EVER YOU HAVE TIME, THEN YOU SHOULD COVER THE ENTIRE SYLABUS, SO THAT YOU WILL BE EVEN MENTALLY PREPARED AND CONFIDENT ON THE EXAM DAY….
MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETE THE STUDYING ATLEAST TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE EXAM, SO THAT YOU WILL HAVE TIME TO DO THE PASS PAPERS….
AND FINALLY, DO AS MANY PASS EXAM PAPERS OR SAMPLE EXAM PAPERS AS POSSIBLE….
HOPE YOU WILL GET THE BEST GRADES IN YOUR EXAM!!!!
Also if the teacher mentioned something in our book (in college) I highlighted the passage that she or he was talking about. Then I would reread the highlighted sections often and read the summary before the test. I ended up with a 3.98 GPA.
