Can lack of study in a subject decrease what you already know?
I am in the 8th grade and I used to be a great speller, I went to the state finals of the spelling bee in 5th grade, then in 6th grade we stopped studying spelling. I basically ignored it and now I’m a average speller at best. What do you think?

many skills, even riding the proverbial bike, need practice, or we forget. Spelling, language, math, most cognitive things, need to be used .

I think that you didn’t add anything to your knowledge base. Guessing that you can still spell at the 5th grade level.
Not studying doesn’t decrease you knowledge in a subject if you actually learned it, but your knowledge in that area will not increase
