Where can I find scholarships/grant for a single mother returing to school to get her bachelor’s degree?

This is a database (free) of scholarships. It takes about 30 minutes and asks a ton of question. Have sealed transcripts ready to send. Some places will ask for a short essay …Might want to start on a bio. If the deadlines are passed, save the information and complete the application a little later.

This website will save allot of research time. I looked in scholarship books for hours when went back to school.

Also, there may be a scholarship office at your school, but typically the applications are in late Fall and early Spring for distribution the following year.

Teacher is right about the number of small scholarships available out there. So ideas that might help: If your dad, mother, or husband is a veteran check with your local chapters of the American Legion, your local VFW chapter, you local VVA (Vietnam Veterans of America). If you are a church member talk to your pastor, priest or rabbi. Go to your local unemployment office, a lot of time they will know of scholarships. After that check with every high school guidance counsellor in your area. Also check with the career counsellor at your college. Next check with the Dean of Women, Dean of the school you are entering. Next check with all the civic and Professional clubs in your area.

Also get on the internet. There is a web site devoted to sholarships I don’t remember the e-address but I think it is something like www.scholarships.com. There is also a federal government web site which lists sholarships. And your state might have one as well. Also if you, your parents, or your husband is a union member check with the local as well.

Heck don’t forget the stores you shop in. Ask them if they have scholarships. I know Wal Mart has a sholarship program.

There is a ton of small scholarships out there. You just have to dig them out.

But remember what Teacher said about small scholarsthips. Four $500 scholarships is just as good as one $2,000 dollar scholarship.

Don’t do like one of my students did. She turned her nose up at a $500 sholarship. Hey that hurt my feelings because I knew that was more than the people in the organization offering her the scholarship could afford. It the time better than fifty percent of them were unemployed.

So when you get a scholarship no matter how small it is think about that. Also make it a point to keep in touch with the people who gave you the scholarship and keep them informed of your progress. Also take every chance you get to show your apperication. They didn’t have to help you!

Check first with the school you’re attending, then with a high school guidance office. There may be tons of small scholarships available, but you’ll have to do a lot of research. The guidance office should be able to direct you to other sources.
